A glass of homemade lemonade made with freshly squeezed lemons hits the spot on a hot summer day! It quenches the thirst and is definitely worth the bit of extra time it takes to juice the lemons. I like to add a cup of fresh berries to give it a nice color and flavor twist.
Slice a lemon and place it in gallon size pitcher. Add sugar and mash together with a wooden spoon. This is a great job for little hands that might be helping.
Here is where I like to add a cup of fresh berries like raspberries, blueberries, or strawberries. For blueberries and strawberries, I smash them a little bit but raspberries fall apart in their own and don’t need any smashing.
Juice lemons to make one cup lemon juice. It takes about 5 large lemons to make one cup of lemon juice. Pour the freshly squeezed juice into the pitcher. Fill the pitcher the rest of the way with cold water. Gently mix to dissolve the sugar. Pour into glasses, garnish with a lemon slice, and enjoy!
