Rachel’s Homestyle Chili

This is a classic, hearty chili that everybody will enjoy. It isn’t too spicy for the kids (and me!) Made with ground beef and beans and all the warm chili spices, it goes perfect with a steaming pan of cornbread.

Rachel’s Homestyle Chili

Ingredients
  

  • 2 cans 16 oz. mild chili beans
  • 2 lb. ground beef
  • 1 medium onion chopped
  • 1 can 14.5 oz. diced tomatoes
  • 1 can 6 oz. tomato paste
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/2 tsp. black pepper
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1 tsp. chili powder
  • 2 tsp. oregano
  • 1 tsp. cumin
  • 1/2 tsp. garlic powder
  • 1/4 tsp. cayenne pepper optional
  • 1 tsp. sugar
  • additional salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and chili powder as preferred

Instructions
 

  • In a skillet cook beef and onion until brown. Season the meat with additional salt, pepper, garlic powder, and chili powder while it’s cooking. Drain excess grease.
  • Transfer meat to a pot and stir in the remaining ingredients. Bring to a boil. Cover, reduce heat, and let simmer for about 30 minutes.
  • Serve with cornbread, shredded cheese, and sour cream.
