Rachel’s Homestyle Chili

A hearty chili full of ground beef and beans and sure to become a family favorite.

Ingredients
  

  • 2 lb. ground beef
  • 2 16 oz. cans mild chili beans
  • 1 medium onion chopped
  • 1 can 14.5 oz. diced tomatoes
  • 1 can 6 oz. tomato paste
  • 1 cup water
  • 2 tsp. oregano
  • 1 tsp. chili powder
  • 1 tsp. cumin
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 tsp. black pepper
  • 1/2 tsp. garlic powder
  • 1/4 tsp. cayenne pepper optional
  • 1 tsp. sugar
  • additional salt and seasonings as preferred

Method
 

  1. In a skillet cook beef and onion until brown. Season the meat with additional salt, pepper, garlic powder, and chili powder while it's cooking. Drain excess grease.
  2. Transfer meat to a pot and stir in the remaining ingredients. Bring to a boil. Cover, reduce heat, and let simmer for about 30 minutes.
  3. Serve with cornbread, shredded cheese, and sour cream.
