Peel the potatoes and grate them and the onion with a King Kutter or box grater. Or just chop the onion with a knife.
Place them in a large casserole dish and season generously with salt, pepper, garlic powder.
Slice the butter and place it on top of the potatoes.
Pour in some milk. You will add more milk as it bakes and as needed.
Bake in 375 degree oven for about 2 hours. Pull it out and stir every 30 minutes or so, adding more milk as needed to make it a smooth consistency that isn’t burning to the bottom of the pan.
While the potatoes are baking, brown the ground beef and season it with salt, pepper, and garlic powder. Drain off excess grease and stir the browned ground beef into the potatoes about 30 minutes to an hour before they’re done baking.
The end goal is a soft, smooth, creamy potato casserole. I like to serve it with sweet corn and applesauce.
