Sour Cream and Onion Mashed Potatoes
These sour cream and onion mashed potatoes are so savory that you don’t need gravy to go with them. I make them for every holiday table at our house and also often throughout the year. They are a family favorite.
It only takes a couple ingredients to make this delicious side dish:
- potatoes – russet are my first choice but any potato will work
- butter – I always use salted butter
- milk – whole milk of course
- sour cream
- green onions – I trim the root and an inch or two of the green tops and then chop the rest
- salt
- black pepper
- garlic powder
My favorite way to mash potatoes is still by hand with a potato masher. A stainless steel masher with a round base is my choice. You can find one here.
A tip for smooth mashed potatoes is mashing them till they’re smooth before adding the milk and sour cream. You can add the butter and season them while mashing them but adding anything else tends to make lumpy mashed potatoes.
Enjoy these excellent boiled potatoes my friends,
